Ever feel like you’re always rushing? Always late? Always running from one place to another? Always trying to fit one more thing into the day?
I know those feelings awfully well. That was me – up until about two months ago. I am not nearly as close to where I want to end up, but I’m getting there!
Soooo…a few months ago, I was driving home from dinner with a friend on Long Island a little after 11pm, I was cruising (having to pee) and listening to music. About 10 minutes from home on i95, I spotted an undercover cop as I came to the top of a hill going around 75mph. As I slammed on the break, his lights went on, and there I was at about 11:11pm- getting pulled over. My panic ensued. The cop came over and I was respectful as always. Of course, I was panicked and I couldn’t find my license right away. Eventually I found it and he came back with my ticket and told me to have a good night. That’s the end of the boring, but transformational story that impacted my life in many waysThere I was, on the side of i95- cars speeding past me and on the verge of tears. It all dawned on me – it was time for Kristin to slow down.
This was the pivotal moment that I said to myself, what am I rushing to? Why am I rushing through all of life around me just to get to the next thing? That night I made a pact with myself that I was going to take some steps in my life to just relax and slow down. A pact to enjoy what is in front of me and how incredibly lucky and blessed I am to have what I have in life. There was no reason to fly right past all of the amazing things in my life just to get to the next thing. The most obvious step for me given this turning point situation was to slow down while driving. I was always racing everywhere because I was rushing from one place to the next. Driving much more slowly has helped me make strides to a slower more graceful life. If I am late, I’ll be late- I won’t be speeding to get anywhere from now on. Some other little things I have done to slow down:1. Leave earlier! 2. Prepare for the day the night before (eliminates feeling rushed or frazzled in the morning)! Don’t jam-pack my day- focus on a few key tasks! You are only human and can’t accomplish everything in one day! 4. Plan out my week ahead of time!
I’ll be back with an update, as I allow myself to slow down, even more, be more graceful, and simply enjoy life!
Heres to another great week!
xoxo Kristin
